The Politics of the Indian Politician

In this new age, how would you define the roles of a politician who has been elected to office? Apart from his official duties, which might be set forth by guidelines by IAS officers working with in the respective department, and the countless social events he might attend to, what else would you term as the role of a politician? Can India be served better by Politicians? As you would have realized by now, every Indian is aware and keeps track of Indian politics on a daily basis. We as Indians are very current due to our urge to be aware of what’s going on. Wouldn’t it be a change if we knew the politicians we have elected are running the country 100% to our benefit and we has country folk could for once sideline the political issues and get on with making our lives happier. Can this ever happen?

We have over the years always heard politicians throwing dirt at each other and playing the blame game haven't we? Rigging elections and votes. And the audacity of politicians to actually bring a bundle of notes into the parliament to show they were bribed! What ever happened to that? How can they stoop so low? They promise you everything under the sun during the election campaign and then turn their backs at you when they are elected.

Then the recent open attacks on our major city. We are vulnerable in many aspects. If we are doing very well in terms of business, foreign direct investments, banking, real estate etc, we also have to do well in protecting our nation. We need to get our protective forces well equipped to handle today’s threats. Not walk around in a 1952 rifle. Not face bullets with out a good bullet proof jacket. Not walk into a smoke filled war zone without gas masks and night vision goggles. We have the 2nd largest defense budget in the world, what the hell are we doing with it. Our jawans get paid dirt even though they give up their lives for us, the internal security forces get no funds to upgrade to new technologies? We were attacked at the door step of our parliament? Wasn’t this a wake up call enough to run and make a series of changes? No we had to get 300 odd people to die, to awaken the spirit of India in the hearts of our political leaders.

I think its time a new generation of politicians should come forward in India. The Fourth Front. It should be by the younger generation with the vision for the future of India. This group of politicians should have only one objective and that is a united India both internally and externally. Like the BJP had once mentioned, India should actually shine. When I say the younger generation, I don’t mean politicians in their twenties. By god no. I mean politicians who are ready to move away from the promises given of roti, kapada and makan and actually go about doing some about it. India does need a lot of work internally, from socially, economically and agriculturally. We need politicians to work with the rural India. India is so much more technologically advanced that we were 30 years ago. But we are so laid back that by the time all this reaches our rural and tribal areas we have passed another 50 odd years. There are still backward areas in probably every state where people still lack electricity or a telephone connection. Thinkers like respected Abdul Kalam and his likes should come forward and take action. When we have fiery band leaders with the likes of him, I am sure our generation and the next generation would help build political leaders with character and one vision. We need to understand that India is a mix of various religions and cultures. You cannot change that, we have to live with it. You cannot say, this was done to us and that was done to them. Move away from the past but learn from its mistakes.

The sooner our politicians stop mixing religion with politics, the better we are. They shouldn’t un-necessarily be a catalyst in triggering emotional sentiments of the people. People in rural India and all Indians in general are the emotional kind. If we love some one we will love them to death and if we hate them, we hate them to their death. In such situations its always best if bygones were left as bygones and turn a new leaf.

What if all our politicians just changed leaf. Instead of throwing crap at each other and discussing how during the other parties rule, they failed to do this, this and that. And in the next five years when the other party rules, we hear the same shit all over again. Aren’t we tired of this bull shit?Imagine the Politicians of the new age. They would compete on how they have excelled from the other but they always work together for India. If one party was able to create, change and execute solid x amount of plans for the betterment of Indian people, then in the next 5 years the next party should try and do x+1 plans to further develop India both internally and externally. This will get the ball rolling into making India a better nation, where employment is high, where water is distributed evenly in all areas, where farmers are taken care off, where roads are being built, were alternative energy is being used, where young street children are kept of the street and given education, where our over all infrastructure is showing an increasing trend, where wars are not fought with bullets but with sports, where sportsmen and women are given better infrastructure and facilities to showcase India’s talents locally and abroad, when new talent comes to light, where our jawans are treated well, where are local police are technology and informatively advanced, where the local transport systems are more efficient and customer friendly, where the government employees at least come on time and do their work (bribery has to be dealt with separately, but at least do your work), where politicians no longer speak of religious minority vote banks and caste related vote banks, where we stand together as Indians and where we are proud of having elected our politicians.

I wish Politicians stop complaining and begin to prove their mantle in showcasing their achievements that actually has made a difference to the common man. Politics of the Indian Politician should not be the race for the chair of power rather we as citizens of India would love and respect a Politician whose politics would be to make decisions for the betterment and empowerment of the common Indian, whereby he achieves a small percentage of social upliftment.

I then would be proud of such a politician.

As long as we expect the politicians to change noting is going to change. It is not them it is WE who are suppose to change. Aren’t we responsible for the electing the politicians? They did not come to power on their own.

When the question of WE comes it becomes a politically incorrect word. Since WE is not in the parlance of Indians. WE takes various forms.

North
South
East
West
Migrants from Bangladesh and Srilanka (They today have formed a sizable votebank)
Rich
Poor
Languages – I really don’t know how many Indian languages are there.
Caste – I really again don’t know how many castes are there in each religion and thier subsects.
Hindu
Muslim
Christian
Buddhists
Sikhs
and the above list there will be subsects who will also form a sizable chunk.
Non religious

So when one shouts WE in front and turns back there is only I how unfortunate?

Things would change when there is a collective mindset. The day is not far until it happens but when it happens yes there will be CHANGE for ever.
